ALOR SETAR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Jealousy and unrequited love are believed to have been the motives behind a man allegedly stabbing a woman in the neck while inside a car in front of a restaurant along Jalan Titi Gajah near here last night.
Kedah Police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said police were, however, still conducting detailed investigations to determine the main motive behind the incident involving the 32-year-old suspect and the 35-year-old victim.
“Police received a call regarding the incident at 9.24 pm, informing of a fight in front of a restaurant. The female victim sustained injuries to the neck, believed to have been caused by a sharp object, and was found lying inside the car, covered in blood.
“The suspect fled immediately after the incident before he was arrested while hiding in the vicinity of a place of worship in Taman Uda, about six kilometres (km) from the scene,” he told a press conference at the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
He said the victim, a single mother, and the suspect, a divorcee, had known each other for more than a year, as both were working in the real estate sector.
“The incident is believed to have happened quickly as they had just arrived at the restaurant. Both had yet to get out of the car, but a few minutes later, the suspect exited the victim’s vehicle and fled towards a nearby padi field area.
“The victim’s quick action in honking the car horn attracted the attention of members of the public at the restaurant, and initial treatment was given to stop the bleeding.
“The stab wound is believed to have been inflicted from the left side of the neck and penetrated through to the right. The sharp weapon used could have been an ice pick, screwdriver, or Rambo knife,” he said.
According to him, the victim is currently in stable condition, and police will obtain further information from the victim and several other witnesses to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Adzli said the suspect was found to have a criminal record under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to his girlfriend several years ago.
“Urine screening results found the suspect negative for any prohibited substances, and he has been remanded for seven days until May 24 to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” he said.
