SANDAKAN, May 19 (Bernama) -- An 84-year-old woman was found dead after the two-storey house she was living in caught fire at Jalan Fook Hin, Batu 12, here last night.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the victim, identified as Nicola, was found by firefighters in the living room at 10.44 pm.
"The victim is believed to have been trapped inside the house when the fire broke out. Her body was removed by Fire and Rescue Department personnel," he said in a statement today.
Jimmy said the department received an emergency call on the incident at 8.38 pm, with 13 firefighters deployed to the scene. The blaze was brought under control at 9.35 pm using water from the fire engine's tank.
The victim's body was later handed over to the police for further action.
