BATU PAHAT, May 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has been named the Best Entrepreneurship Institution at the Ministry of Higher Education Entrepreneurship Awards (AKKPT) 2025, held at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday (May 15).
The award was presented by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. The recognition reflects UTHM’s continuous commitment to advancing the national higher education entrepreneurship agenda through various initiatives to develop the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
UTHM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mas Fawzi Mohd Ali said the achievement is in line with the university’s efforts to cultivate an entrepreneurial culture among students and staff through training programmes, innovation competitions, business development initiatives, and continuous support for high-potential student and staff startups.
He attributes the success to the University Technopreneur Centre (PTU), which plays a key role as the main driver of the university’s entrepreneurship agenda.
“PTU is responsible for planning strategies, coordinating and implementing various initiatives related to entrepreneurship development, including data management, reporting, training, competitions, startup monitoring, and the holistic, high-impact development of the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” he said in a statement today.
Mas Fawzi also expressed appreciation to the entire university community for their commitment and cooperation in advancing the entrepreneurship agenda, particularly PTU members who serve as the backbone and key strategic planners.
He said the time, energy and ideas contributed by the team have yielded highly commendable results for the university and will serve as a catalyst to strengthen the entrepreneurial culture among UTHM students.
“This success also proves that teamwork, dedication and the commitment of the entire university community can produce achievements with significant impact on the development of higher education and entrepreneurship in the country.
“UTHM hopes this recognition will further drive efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurship agenda in producing more competitive, innovative and resilient graduate entrepreneurs in the future,” he said.
UTHM took home RM250,000 in prize money and an additional RM30,000 as a finalist, bringing the total entrepreneurship development fund to RM280,000.
