PUTRAJAYA, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory of Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has mobilised its personnel to monitor rising water levels at a shopping mall here following continuous heavy rain today.
Putrajaya JBPM Fire and Rescue Operations Division assistant director Muhamad Haziq Hazmi said the department received reports regarding rising water levels in the area, and immediate monitoring was carried out to ensure the situation remained under control and that no casualties were involved.
Meanwhile, he said Putrajaya JBPM had also received several complaints related to water ponding and flood-prone areas following heavy rain around Putrajaya between 3 pm and 4 pm today.
Following this, the Precinct 7 and Precinct 14 fire and rescue stations conducted patrols and monitoring at several hotspots to ensure conditions remained safe and under control.
Among the locations monitored were the residential areas of Precinct 9 Phase 5 and 6, the Precinct 11 Tunnel, Perumahan Penjawat Awam Malaysia (PPAM) Seruling Precinct 5, the Putrajaya Convention Centre as well as areas around Precinct 16 and Precinct 17.
“Inspections were also carried out on the drainage system and water levels in areas at risk of water accumulation to prevent flash floods.
“Continuous monitoring is also being conducted through the CCTV system and cooperation with the Putrajaya Command Centre (PPj),” he said in a statement today.
He said the department remained on full alert to face any possibility following the current uncertain weather conditions.
“Early monitoring and continuous patrols are being carried out to ensure any flash flood risks can be identified immediately and swift action can be taken by the fire and rescue team for public safety.”
He advised the public to remain alert to current weather conditions and to immediately report to the authorities should any emergency or rise in water levels occur in their respective areas.
Earlier, several videos uploaded by members of the public showing flooded parking areas at the shopping mall following continuous heavy rain today had gone viral on social media.
