MUNICH, May 25 (Bernama-dpa) -- Former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher weathered a late scare during his debut at the legendary Indianapolis IndyCar race on Sunday, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

The German brushed the barriers just before the end but brought his car across the finish line after 200 laps to finish 18th out of 33rd drivers. He started the race in 27th.

Swedish Felix Rosenqvist won the race after overtaking David Malukas in the final straight.

Schumacher is the first German driver in 103 years to take the starting grid at the famous oval track.

He raced in F1 in 2021 and 2022 and was engaged in the Endurance World Championship before joining IndyCar this year.

Brazilian Caio Collet suffered a big crash as he went into the wall with eight laps to go. His wrecked car caught fire but the driver was able to safely climb out of the vehicle with the help of the stewards.
