PHNOM PENH, May 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has rolled out another vibrant tourism campaign in the Cambodian capital to woo more tourists for Visit Malaysia 2026.
The “Malaysia Travel and Shopping Fair 2026” was held at the AEON Mall 1 in Phnom Penh on Sunday to position the country as a premier tourism destination in the region.
Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn said tourism transcends mere holiday-making but bolsters diplomatic ties and people-to-people relations.
“Tourism is just more than travelling and seeing another country. It helps us understand our friends and neighbours better, through their history, culture, food, and hospitality.
“Tourism connects our people and helps to strengthen the people-to-people relations aspect, which is an integral element of the strong bilateral relations between Malaysia and Cambodia,” he said in his welcoming speech.
The event showcased Malaysia’s rich cultural and natural diversity through colourful traditional dances, visuals, and booths promoting Malaysian-made products.
Guest of honour, Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak, said diplomatic and trade relations, including tourism, have blossomed since Cambodia and Malaysia established ties in 1957.
“A meaningful platform that further strengthens the long-lasting friendship and close cooperation of the people of Cambodia and Malaysia, especially in the tourism sector.
“I reiterate that the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism remains firmly committed to further strengthening tourism cooperation with Malaysia, especially in promoting regional connectivity, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and advancing sustainable tourism development within ASEAN,” he said.
Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh jointly hosted the two-day event.
