Early Digital Education To Support Melaka’s TVET Development

MELAKA, May 30 (Bernama) -- Early exposure to digital education programmes such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, animation and coding is expected to support Melaka’s efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development.

State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee deputy chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem said private sector involvement in digital education could also help cultivate a culture of innovation among the younger generation while producing a more competitive workforce capable of meeting industry needs.

He said the initiative was in line with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh’s priority of strengthening TVET as part of the state’s development agenda.

Mohd Noor Helmy said the opening of Todak Academy in Peringgit, the first outside the Klang Valley, would serve as a one-stop centre for children aged between seven and 17 to gain early exposure to programmes such as e-sports, AI robotics, 3D animation and game-based learning.

“Exposing children to digital technology and skills from a young age is important in preparing them for future industry needs,” he told reporters after officiating the academy here today which was also attended by Todak Academy chief executive officer Mohamad Taufik Rizal Aminuddin.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Taufik Rizal said Melaka was selected as the first expansion location as the institution already has about 200 students from 19 primary and secondary schools in the state.

“At present, we offer four programmes, including game-based learning, which focuses on game development through coding. Students can later market the games they create, helping to nurture entrepreneurs in the field,” he said.

He added that the animation programme is open to children as young as seven, while the e-sports programme is open to those aged nine and above.

Participants are also taught proper gaming practices, including time management and mental health awareness, to reduce the negative effects of uncontrolled gaming.

Mohamad Taufik Rizal said four more branches will open outside the Klang Valley by year-end, including in Kuantan, Ipoh, Johor and Kuching.
