KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- A total of 18 top students of the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) will receive scholarships offered by public universities in recognition of their academic excellence.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the scholarships in the form of tuition fee sponsorship are a new initiative in the government's efforts to continue strengthening the Form Six ecosystem and encourage more students to choose the pre-university route.
"Starting with the 2025 STPM cohort, each public university will offer Bachelor's degree scholarships to the best STPM 2025 students. I express my highest appreciation to all public universities for this effort," she said.
She said this at a press conference after the Presentation of the Best Student Awards for the 2025 STPM, the University of Malaysia English Test (MUET) and the Certificate of Proficiency in Malay for Foreigners (SKBMW) at the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) Building here today.
Also present were Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, MPM chairman Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff and director-general of Education Malaysia (KPPM) Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.
Fadhlina said the government had also implemented various initiatives to strengthen the Form Six ecosystem including the expansion of Form Six Colleges, the provision of smartboards, early schooling assistance and MADANI Book Vouchers.
According to her, the overall performance of STPM 2025 also showed a proud achievement when the national Overall Grade Point Average (CGPA) increased to 2.88 compared to 2.85 in the previous year.
"This shows that our educational performance and quality of education, God willing, will improve and become stronger with the ecosystem that we have already provided," she said.
