PUTRAJAYA, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has, to date, produced 25,601 skilled workers in the agricultural sector, with the marketability rate of graduates from its agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions rising to 81 per cent in 2024, compared with 78 per cent in the previous year.
KPKM said in a statement that the agri-food sector is now part of the country’s strategic agenda, in view of global crises such as climate change, geopolitical uncertainties and the energy crisis, which have affected logistics costs and food supply security.
“To address these impacts, the government, through KPKM, remains committed to strengthening the sector based on the National Agro-Food Policy 2021-2030 (DAN 2.0), the National Food Security Policy 2030 (DKMN 2030), Agro MADANI Sales, and the Agropreneur NextGen grant initiative,” the ministry said.
According to the statement, a total of 750 graduates from the 2025 academic session at the Agricultural TVET Training Institute (ILTP) under KPKM were honoured at the 14th Agricultural Convocation Ceremony 2026 in Bangi, Selangor, today, officiated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Chan Foong Hin.
KPKM said those who received their scrolls at today’s convocation comprised 49 Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM) and 312 Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) holders, as well as recipients of 350 Agricultural Certificates, 28 Malaysian Veterinary Certificates (SVM) and 11 Fisheries Certificates.
“The ceremony also saw the presentation of seven special awards to recipients in recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout their studies,” the ministry said.
The statement said the graduates completed courses across 10 areas, including crops, ruminant livestock, poultry livestock, capture fisheries technology and marine aquaculture, as well as three certifications under KPKM, namely the Agricultural Certificate, Malaysian Veterinary Certificate and Fisheries Certificate, offered at 16 ILTPs nationwide.
