MADANI Talent Programme To Boost Malaysia’s Competitiveness, Socioeconomic Mobility

Published : 29/06/2026 07:29 PM

SEREMBAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Talent programme has the potential to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness by producing a skilled workforce that meets the needs of future industries, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, digitalisation and automation.

Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) acting president Datuk Rizal Rickman Ramli said the initiative is crucial in ensuring a steady supply of highly skilled workers required for the country to navigate rapid technological changes, while strengthening its global competitiveness.

He said beyond meeting industry demands, the programme also benefits participants by opening up more secure career opportunities, improving employment prospects, and strengthening their socioeconomic standing and mobility.

“If both these objectives can be achieved, Malaysia will become more competitive, while the younger generation will enjoy a better and brighter future, in addition to encouraging greater participation from private companies,” he told reporters here today.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS Education and Human Capital Investment senior general manager Akmal Niza Ahmad said technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is among the most important pathways in meeting industry needs, including in the energy, oil and gas sectors.

“We need to change the perception that TVET is a second-choice option. In industrial operations, skilled workers such as welders, electricians, chargemen, pipe fitters and other technical personnel play a very critical role.

“These career pathways require high-level skills, discipline, strict safety standards and exposure to complex technologies and operations,” he said.

He added that TVET is a strategic component in the nation’s human capital development, and is not merely skills training but a valuable and relevant career pathway capable of offering a better future for Malaysian youth.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) ecosystem is among the best sources for industry to tap experienced talents.

He said MAF personnel possess technical skills, experience in handling machinery, heavy vehicles, defence technology and logistics, as well as strong discipline developed throughout their service.

“This MADANI Talent programme is highly relevant and aligned with current labour market demands, as skilled graduates are in very high demand,” he said.
