BUDI Diesel Starts Tomorrow, 700,000 Vehicle Owners To Pay RM2.10 A Litre

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Around 700,000 private vehicle owners across the country are set to benefit from subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre under the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) initiative starting tomorrow.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) said in a statement today that the initiative is expected to benefit 400,000 private diesel vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia, and 300,000 in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

The ministry stated that this is a major expansion from the previous individual scheme BUDI Diesel Individu, which provided monthly cash aid to just 180,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia to partly cushion the impact of market-rate diesel prices.

"In addition, around 70,000 commercial and goods transport vehicles in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan are now eligible to purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.15 per litre under the SKDS (Subsidised Diesel Control System).

"The MADANI Government is also extending eligibility to company-registered private pickup trucks and jeeps, subject to certain terms," read the statement.

The MOF said the fuel subsidy programme ensures that eligible citizens do not have to pay full market prices, thereby helping to ease cost-of-living pressures, protect key sectors dependent on fuel, and support national growth.

The statement noted that early access to BUDI Diesel for eligible private diesel vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia has run smoothly since its launch on June 27, with around 80,000 transactions recorded as of noon today.

"The transactions covered about 3.2 million litres of subsidised diesel worth nearly RM7 million at RM2.15 per litre. The MyKad verification system at petrol stations ran smoothly with no major issues reported by consumers or fuel companies," it said.

The ministry said that eligible pickup and jeep owners can apply for an additional 100 litres of diesel a month via the BUDI MADANI portal, subject to terms, noting that more than 22,000 applications had been submitted via the BUDI MADANI portal by 9 am.

Meanwhile, the government is introducing a three-month waiver, effective tomorrow, on ownership transfer fees of up to RM100 for diesel vehicles. The move benefits individuals using vehicles registered under the names of close family members.

To facilitate the process, Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters will open on weekends from July 4 to 26, between 8 am and 5 pm, at all state JPJ offices and state UTC JPJ branches.

The MOF has also introduced a mechanism to transfer BUDI Diesel eligibility for vehicles driven by immediate family members who are not the registered owners.

The mechanism allows initial BUDI Diesel beneficiaries to hand over their subsidy eligibility to a spouse, parent, child, or sibling, subject to official terms and verification.

"Nearly 1,000 transfer applications had been received by the MOF as of 9 am on June 30, 2026. This one-off transfer is restricted to a single recipient who, once approved, can use their own MyKad to buy subsidised diesel under the original owner's quota," the statement added.

The MOF said private diesel vehicle owners can review their eligibility status and monthly quotas at www.budimadani.gov.my, stressing that the government will continuously monitor the BUDI Diesel scheme to guarantee subsidies reach eligible users, prevent smuggling, and secure national fuel stocks.
