KUCHING, July 1 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak branch of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) have strengthened strategic cooperation to address cross-border crime, focusing on intelligence sharing, security operations coordination and enforcement along the Malaysia-Brunei border.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the cooperation was agreed during a meeting held at the RBPF headquarters in Brunei yesterday, in conjunction with his official working visit to the country.
He said the meeting served as an important platform to further enhance collaboration between both forces in combating cross-border crime.
"Besides strengthening intelligence and information sharing, the meeting also focused on coordinating land and maritime security operations, improving search and rescue cooperation, and streamlining procedures for the transfer of detainees in accordance with mutually agreed legal frameworks," he told Bernama today.
Mohamad Zainal led the Sarawak police delegation, which included Deputy Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak, senior officers from the Sarawak police contingent headquarters, as well as district police chiefs from Miri, Limbang and Lawas.
The Brunei delegation was led by Police Commissioner of Brunei Datuk Seri Pahlawan Sulaiman Alidin.
At the same event, Sulaiman presented letters of appreciation to the Miri and Limbang district police chiefs in recognition of their excellent cooperation in assisting the arrest of a fugitive from Brunei.
Mohamad Zainal said the meeting successfully achieved its objectives and further strengthened professional ties between both sides to ensure continued safety and security along the Malaysia-Brunei border.
