PARIS, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- National para archery champion S. Suresh has chosen to stake his original bow grip, the same that he had used to become the World Champion in 2019, when facing his next opponent in the men's open Recurve elimination round (1/16) in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games at Invalides here tomorrow morning.

Suresh is scheduled to meet Eric Bennett from the United States, whom he had previously defeated when he became the world champion in 2019 in the Netherlands.

The 31-year-old archer stated that the decision to use his original bow grip in Paris meant he had to set aside his desire to switch to a newly designed bow grip that was specially designed through Research and Development (R&D) conducted by the National Sports Institute (ISN), which he had received last June.

"Actually, I already tried the new bow grip, but it wasn't very comfortable, so I had to switch back to the original one.

"A new bow grip can have an impact on me, but it will take time; however, I can't adapt in such a short period, and I have already discussed with the coach to use the old one," he said when met here.

Last Thursday, Suresh finished the ranking round in 12th place with 625 points, setting a new personal best for the season, and surpassing his personal best of 596 points that was set during the World Para Archery Ranking competition in the Czech Republic last June.

The Paralympic Games, which officially opened on Aug 28, will end on Sunday.
