ADAMAS Recommends Mandatory Anti-doping Education For Bodybuilding Participants

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Anti-Doping Agency Malaysia (ADAMAS) has recommended that sports event organisers make anti-doping education mandatory for all participants as a condition to enter bodybuilding competitions in the future.

This step aims to ensure that all participants understand and are aware of the effects of doping on their careers and health.

“Sports event organisers also need to obtain recognition from the relevant governing bodies, as outlined in the guidelines issued by the Office of the Sports Commissioner (PJS).

“The public can check at https://erosa.kbs.gov.my to ensure that a competition has received recognition and approval from PJS,” ADAMAS announced in a statement  today.

Doping refers to the use of banned substances or drugs to enhance athletic performance.

ADAMAS also disclosed that it had received information about a series of bodybuilding competitions organised by private entities targeting youth participants in the sport.

According to ADAMAS, organisers must ensure the sport is free from the misuse of banned substances, guaranteeing transparency, fairness, and overall integrity in line with the Safe Sports Code published by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in 2023.

“Bodybuilding is a sport with high potential for winning medals in international competitions, but it also carries a high risk of involvement in banned substance abuse, particularly Androgenic Anabolic Steroids (AAS).

“ADAMAS takes this issue seriously and is committed to ensuring athletes' rights are protected while maintaining a clean and safe sports environment.

“Hence, ADAMAS’ anti-doping program aims to raise awareness, provide education, protect athletes' health, and ensure that bodybuilding events adhere to current anti-doping regulations,” the agency added.
