Malaysia Super 100: Tien Ci-Chiew Sien Stay Calm In Decider To Roll Into Semis

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- National mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien stayed cool, calm and collected in the deciding game to outlast Americans Presley Smith-Jennie Gai 21-17, 15-21, 21-10 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Malaysia Super 100 badminton tournament today.

The Malaysians, however, had to toil for 51 minutes to overcome the second-seeded Americans at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here.

Tien Ci admitted that, in their haste to close off the match, they made way too many mistakes and that rattled their confidence.

"We treat every match as an opportunity to gain new experience. We will train diligently so that when it comes to match day, we will not feel pressured and can give our best,” said the 26-year-old Tien Ci.

Meanwhile, Chiew Sien intends to take it one match at a time in their bid to win the tournament.

"Our target is to be on the podium and, if possible, emerge as champions. However, we don't think about these things when we are playing as they can be a distraction and affect our performance,” she said.

The pair, ranked 57th in the world, are scheduled to face third seeds Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara of Jepun in the last four tomorrow.
