19/10/2024 04:03 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- National mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were upset by Japan's Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara in the semi-finals of the 2024 Malaysia Super 100 badminton tournament here today.

The second-seeded Malaysians lost 19-21, 14-21 in 45 minutes at Stadium Juara to the Japanese, who are seeded third and ranked 64 in the world.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Tien Ci said their performance had improved although they lacked consistency.

“We were determined to win but lost confidence after making many mistakes. We were inconsistent and lacked mental strength,” he added.

“I would give ourselves 6 or 7 points out of 10 in this tournament. After this, we are going to compete in Indonesia and Japan,” he added.

Chiew Sien, whose partnership with Tien Ci is ranked world number 57, said it was not too taxing for them to compete in back-to-back tournaments.

Shimogami-Hobara will meet Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan of Taiwan in the final tomorrow.
