PUTRAJAYA, Dec 19 (Bernama) — Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said Victor's apology over the inverted Jalur Gemilang on Lee Zii Jia’s jersey is deemed sufficient and there is no need to prolong the issue.
Hannah believes that Zii Jia had no intention of disrespecting the country and urged other managers and athletes to take such issues seriously to prevent a recurrence.
“Like I said, the apology has been issued from Victor. I have not checked (if Zii Jia's team has issued an apology). For me, I feel that it's sufficient for now.
“The National Sports Council (NSC) has been tasked to look into it and come up with a draft for me. Then we will update (guidelines to prevent such issues from happening),” she said after the KBS Sports Fund 2025 press conference here today.
On another matter, Hannah said she is scheduled to hold a meeting in January with Team LZJ regarding the Road to Gold programme.
Zii Jia was caught in controversy after he was seen wearing a jersey with the Malaysian flag stitched upside down during the BWF World Tour Finals recently.
Meanwhile, when asked about a potential meeting with national track cycling champion Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Hannah said it is likely to take place next year as everybody is winding down due to the year-end.
NSC has given the Malaysian National Cycling Federation until Dec 31 to confirm Mohd Azizulhasni’s participation in the Podium Programme next year.
