SANDAKAN, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysian exponent Riedzwan Norsyahmie Daud knocked out Thailand's Khulabkaw Sor Phong Amon to bag the title in the main event of the Elopura Fights: Reunion of Champions Muay Thai tournament here today.
Riedzwan, the 2019 SEA Games bronze medallist, kayoed his Thai opponent in the first minute of round two in the 61-kilogramme (kg) category.
Sandakan native Riedzwan, also known as the "Golden Shin 66”, thanked his parents and coach for always supporting him.
"Grateful that I performed well today. After this, I plan to go back to college (Universiti Teknologi Mara, Seri Iskandar) for my finals next month. However, I will continue to train.
"Depending on my time and schedule, I may try out for Muay Thai selection to the Thailand SEA Games this year,” he told Bernama.
The two-day championships at the Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Tionghua hall, which ended today, was officiated by Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the senior political secretary to the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian exponent, Kallens defeated Italy's Marco Luigi on points in the 62kg category.
