KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Kuching City FC secured a crucial victory to climb to second place in the 2025/2026 Super League table after successfully defeating Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) 2-0 at the Sarawak State Stadium tonight.
The home side started the match with high energy and managed to open the scoring through Gabriel Nistelrooy Tamin in the 10th minute, capitalising on a mistake by NSFC defender Muhammad Amirul Adli Azmi.
Aware that a 1-0 lead was not yet secure, Kuching City continued to pressure the visitors' defence before eventually scoring a second goal via import striker Wanja Ronald Ngah in the 66th minute.
The visiting team attempted a comeback toward the end of the match, but the resilience of the defence under head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak ensured the two-goal advantage remained until the final whistle.
The race for second place has intensified; after 15 matches, Kuching City sits in second, sharing 31 points with Selangor FC in third, while Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC trails in fourth by only one point.
Defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) sit at the top of the league table with 45 points, maintaining a 100 percent win record so far.
Meanwhile, DPMM FC failed to take advantage of their home ground after drawing 1-1 against Melaka FC at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Brunei.
In that encounter, striker Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad put the home side ahead with a fine finish in the 27th minute but the lead did not last as Melaka’s import striker Ahmed Shamsaldin fired home the equaliser in the 53rd minute, with the 1-1 scoreline remaining until the end of the 90 minutes.
Elsewhere, an injury-time equaliser in the second half by Kelantan The Real Warriors FC midfielder Albert Kang denied Penang FC a win although the Penang side had earlier taken the lead through Dylan Wenzel-Halls in the 33rd minute.
The 1-1 draw remained intact at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu until the final whistle although Penang was forced to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men after defender Ahmad Irfan Mohd Noor was shown a red card in the 57th minute for a crude tackle.
