PETALING JAYA, May 5 (Bernama) -- Today marks a difficult anniversary for Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim, two years after the acid attack, but he remains determined to give his best against Vietnam's Nam Dinh FC in the first leg of the ASEAN Club Championship (ACC) Shopee Cup semi-finals tomorrow.
The 28-year-old said although the incident remains hard for him to accept, he continues to draw strength from the support of teammates, coaches, family and fans as he strives to regain his best form.
“Today is two years since my incident. It's not easy as a person to accept what happened before. My face may be different, but my passion, my eagerness to be the best, to work every day, every game, every training.
I always want to give the best for the team, for myself, for the club," he said during the pre-match press conference at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium, here today.
Faisal added that while scoring in tomorrow's match would be meaningful on a personal level, the team's result was more important.
"For me, I don't care if I score or I don't score but the most important thing is the team. In a big game, we don't care who scores as long as the result is positive.
"If I score tomorrow, it will be beautiful for me. But the most important thing is the team's result first and I want to help the team get a result, prepare well, focus well and play well. Insya-Allah, we will get the result," he said.
In the meantime Faisal urged his team mates to make full use of home advantage, but stressed that hard work on the pitch will determine the outcome.
“We play at home, so we have the advantage -- our stadium, our grass, our family here, our supporters here. There are a lot of positive things, a lot of advantages, but if we don't work harder on the field, it will not be easy for the team," he said
