Newly Established Clubs In Kelantan Must Build Own Identity, History And Fan Base

KOTA BHARU, June 1 (Bernama) -- Newly established clubs in Kelantan need to build their own identity, history, and fan base without relying on the legacy of previous teams, said local football observer Ahmad Muzakkir Hamid.

He said the emergence of new clubs in the Malaysian League (M-League) is a positive development for the state's football growth. However, efforts to restore its former glory must begin by resolving the issues involving the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA), including its suspension status by the Association of Malaysia (FAM).

According to him, fans' support will not come automatically just because a team uses the Kelantan name or claims to be the heir to the previous team's history.

Commenting on the intention of the Ex-Treble Kelantan group to buy an 80 percent stake in Kelantan WTS FC, he said Kelantan football can still be saved if it is led by owners who have solid financial capabilities, good governance, and long-term planning.

"The true soul of Kelantan football still rests with Kelantan FC, as the club is a continuation of the state team's history following the privatisation process from KAFA in 2020," he said in a statement today.

In this regard, cooperation between KAFA, fans, former players, investors, and other stakeholders is crucial to rebuilding the strength of the state's football.

He added that the history, culture, and legacy of Kelantan football built over decades cannot be bought or recreated simply by establishing a new team.
