KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek, Namibia, has once again brought the flavours of Malaysia to Namibian shores.

Following the success of the first Malaysian fruits promotion in May, acting High Commissioner Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya hosted a Durian and Rambutan Fiesta on Monday.

Held at the High Commission’s compound, the fiesta saw the participation of over 40 invited guests.

Guests were treated to the renowned D197 Durian, also known as Musang King, and Rambutan Budak Sekolah. The durians, flown in directly from Malaysia on Friday, arrived in Namibia just a day prior, ensuring their freshness.

The durians, packed in vacuum-sealed bags, were freshly made available for guests to enjoy.

President of Perwakilan Namibia, Datin Noor Zulaikha Rameez, prepared Malaysian delicacies incorporating durian, including Wajik Durian, Bubur Kacang Hijau Durian, and Kuah Durian with Roti.

Traditional Malaysian dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Teh Tarik and fried Bee Hoon were also served.

Meanwhile, Rameez invited the guests to taste the varieties of durian, the "King of Fruits", not readily available locally.

“This will not only enhance trade between our nations but also allow us to experience the food culture embodied by these fruits,” he said in his brief remarks.

Delighted by the taste, some guests even ordered over 100 kilogrammes of Musang King initially through the High Commission.

In May, the High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek in collaboration with the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority Malaysia (FAMA), held the inaugural Malaysian Fruits and Food Promotion. The event showcased mangga harum manis, jackfruit (nangka), nanas MD2, jambu Lohan and pomelo for over 200 guests, including businessmen, retailers, diplomats and locals to savour.
