KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia, Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Sumangala Dias, held a significant courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) on Friday, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, investment and tourism ties.

KLSICCI President Nivas Ragavan, who led a 10-member delegation from the chamber, highlighted the key topics discussed during the meeting, including opportunities for increasing trade and identifying potential sectors for collaboration between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

He said strategies to attract investments and foster business ventures were also addressed, alongside mechanisms to enhance tourism through cultural exchanges and joint marketing efforts.

“The discussion also included the potential for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to further strengthen economic ties between the two nations. Plans were made for reciprocal trade delegations to boost business-to-business (B2B) networking and partnerships,” he said in a statement made available to Bernama.

Nivas stated that the meeting marked a crucial step in deepening the economic relationship between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, opening new avenues for collaboration.

He said during the meeting, the high commissioner emphasised the growing trade relations between the two countries, with trade nearing US$1 billion and Malaysia enjoying over a 95 per cent favourable trade balance.

“The Sri Lankan High Commission is eager to explore further opportunities to enhance and expand these bilateral relations, with a particular focus on increasing trade from Sri Lanka to Malaysia,” he added.
