PARIS, July 29 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Khorloodoi Bishrelt, a member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) national judo team, concluded her journey at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after being eliminated in the round of 16, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
Competing alongside 10,500 athletes from 200 national Olympic committees across 32 sports, Bishrelt faced a tough match against German athlete Mascha Ballhaus, the bronze medallist at the 2024 Abu Dhabi World Championship.
Despite her impressive victory in the round of 32 against China's Zhu Ba Laibon, Bishrelt was unable to advance further.
Meanwhile, Narmand Bayan, also representing the UAE national judo team ended his Olympic campaign in the round of 32, where he was defeated by South Korea’s seasoned judoka An Paul in the under 66 kg category.
In swimming, UAE's Maha Al Shehhi made her Olympic debut in the 200-metre freestyle event, finishing 28th with a time of 2:17.17 minutes.
Al Shehhi expressed pride in her performance and her first experience at the Olympics, competing against some of the world's top swimmers and Olympic record holders.
She highlighted that this experience would fuel her determination to improve her times and return to future Olympic events.
Reflecting on her race, Al Shehhi said that she broke her previous personal record of 2:17.37 by 0.20 seconds, a significant achievement considering the fierce competition and global attention on the event.
