Palestinian Ambassador Praises Malaysia's Support Ahead Of Axiata Arena Gathering

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali, has expressed deep gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the people of Malaysia for their unwavering support and solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Walid described the upcoming event on Sunday as a continuation of Malaysia's longstanding support for Palestine.

"This is a continuation of Malaysia's efforts to show support and solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

"On behalf of Palestine and the Palestinian embassy, I am grateful and appreciate the efforts made by the people and the government of Malaysia,” he said during an interview on the BERNAMA World programme here, on Friday.

The gathering in solidarity with Palestine, to be held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, this Sunday, is one of the moves to send a strong message to the world that Malaysia condemns the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and will continue to support Palestine.

Iranian media reported that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting his accommodation in northern Tehran around 2 am local time on July 31.

Haniyeh was in Tehran for the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president.

Commenting further, Walid praised the consistent sympathy and support of the Malaysian government and people, emphasising that this event is part of ongoing efforts since Oct 7 and even earlier.

The diplomat acknowledged the significant role Malaysia plays in advocating for Palestinian rights, stating that Malaysia's continuous support is unquestionable and deeply appreciated by the Palestinian community.
