MOSCOW, August 18 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- World-famous French actor and filmmaker Alain Delon, considered one of the most remarkable European stars and sex symbols of the second half of the 20th century, has died at the age of 88, French media reported on Sunday, according to Sputnik.

There are reportedly no details on Delon's death yet.

The international fame came to Delon after the release of the film "Purple Noon" (1960), where he played charming but immoral adventurer Tom Ripley. Critics noted that the actor managed to find and perform character who really suits his own personality - the combination of "devil soul" and "angel face".

Delon is also famous for his roles in films such as, "Rocco and His Brothers" (1960), "L'Eclisse" (1962), "The Leopard" (1963), and many others.

During his acting career, he has not only received a number of awards - the Cesar Award for Best Actor, the Honorary Golden Bear and others - but has also been called the most attractive man in the world.

On May 6, 2017, the actor announced the end of his acting career. In a 2021 interview with Paris Match, Delon expressed support for euthanasia, calling it "the most logical and natural thing".
