17/10/2024 08:11 PM

GAZA, Oct 17 (Bernama-WAFA) -- Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan said that the ministry, in partnership with teams from the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), successfully vaccinated 181,429 children under the age of ten against polio in the central governorate of the Gaza Strip within three days.

According to the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) Vitamin A was given to 148,064 children aged ‘two to ten years old’ at various vaccination centres in the governorate, as part of the second round of the emergency campaign to vaccinate against polio in the southern governorates.

Ramadan pointed out Thursday is the last day of vaccination in the central governorate, and  Saturday, the teams will begin vaccinating children in the governorates of Khan Yunis and Rafah for four days, and then in the governorates of Gaza and the North.

The campaign aims to vaccinate 591,700 children under the age of ten, by deploying fixed and mobile teams to complete the campaign.

The Health Ministry emphasised that the success of this campaign relies on a humanitarian truce to ensure that all polio workers can operate in a safe environment, allowing families to vaccinate their children
