JAKARTA, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- As Indonesia gears up for the inauguration of its new president and vice president in just two days, authorities are intensifying security across the metropolitan area, with a strong focus on the Parliament Complex and the State Palace in Central Jakarta.

The National Armed Forces (TNI) have mobilised 100,000 personnel, including military, police, and regional civil service police, to ensure the safety of dignitaries during this significant event, which will extend through October 23.

TNI Commander General Agus Subianto, after overseeing a security roll call at the National Monument, emphasised the gravity of the occasion, noting that 36 foreign heads of state and government are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

“This is more than just a state event; it is a crucial symbol of democracy and governance,” he said, adding that there is a need for robust security measures. Also present was National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Additionally, Listyo Sigit revealed that 15,000 police officers will be deployed to maintain order and manage traffic, while authorities keep a close watch on potential protests as public participation is anticipated.

The inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of outgoing President Joko Widodo, will take place at the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hall in the Parliament Complex at 10 am local time on Sunday (Oct 20, 2024).

The ceremony will commence with remarks from People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) head Ahmad Muzani, followed by the reading of the General Elections Commission (KPU)’s decision on the 2024 Presidential Election results, after which Prabowo and Gibran will take their oaths of office.
