NAPLES, Oct 20 (Bernama-ANSA) -- The joint final statement of a G7 Defence meeting held in Naples Saturday expressed concern over "the latest events in Lebanon and the risk of a further escalation", Italian news agency (ANSA) reported.
"We express concern for all the threats to the security of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
"The security of peacekeepers is a duty for all sides in conflict.
"We moreover stress the importance of support to UNIFIL and the Lebanese armed forces in their role to ensure the stability of Lebanon", the statement said.
The gathering was attended by G7 defence ministers, as well as Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
