KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The launch of ‘Angkor-CIMB Park’ in Siem Reap highlights how Malaysian corporations balance business operations with environmental protection, said Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn.
CIMB Bank in Cambodia created another milestone after launching the park on Saturday at the world-popular Angkor World Heritage Site and carried out a tree-planting programme.
“(Its) truly reflective of CIMB's deep commitment towards sustainability in integrating environmental, economic, and social considerations into all aspects of the business.
“I believe that it is part of CIMB's desire and commitment to fulfil its corporate social responsibility while serving the socioeconomic needs of the community with its banking and related services, and give back positively to society,” Shaharuddin said in his speech at the event.
The tree-planting campaign and the ‘Angkor-CIMB Park’ launch by CIMB was jointly conducted with the Embassy of Malaysia in Phnom Penh.
Also supported by the APSARA Authority and the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, it is an exemplary and noble initiative, said the envoy.
APSARA, or the Authority for the Protection of the Site and Management of the Region of Angkor, manages the historical Angkor Archaeological Park.
Saturday’s event marks the third year of a tree-planting project carried out by CIMB at the site.
Shaharuddin said the park, located within the Angkor World Heritage Site, also supports and preserves both the cultural and natural heritage of Cambodia.
“This event reflects the deep and strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and their people as they continue to strengthen their ties.
“I have always encouraged and supported Malaysians and Malaysian businesses in Cambodia to contribute positively and to give back to our host country Cambodia and the people of Cambodia,” he said.
