KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is open to deepening strategic partnerships with China and welcomes greater investments in high-quality technology, digital economy initiatives, education, and other skill-intensive sectors, said Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim.

In his post on Facebook and X, Anwar said Malaysia is also keen to boost bilateral trade, particularly in halal products and agri-commodities, while fostering strong exchanges in research, development, and technical expertise.

The prime minister, who is currently on a working visit to China from Nov 4 to Nov 7, 2024, held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, where both leaders took the opportunity to strengthen the long-standing friendship between Malaysia and China that has marked 50 years of diplomatic ties.

Anwar also reaffirmed Malaysia’s support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “community of shared future” vision, which emphasised shared prosperity to benefit every individual and country.

He added that it was this vision and principle that inspired Malaysia’s decision to join BRICS.

“I expressed my deepest appreciation to China for its steadfast support in endorsing Malaysia as a BRICS partner country,” he said.

During the meeting, Anwar also highlighted both nation’s shared priorities, especially in eliminating poverty, uplifting living standards, and promoting sustainable development.

Anwar also said Malaysia is ready to learn from China’s successes in these areas through partnerships with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the International Poverty Reduction Centre (IPRCC).

“Premier Li and I have witnessed the document exchange concerning the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as well as the exchange of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bernama and China Media Group.

“Alhamdulillah, this meeting strengthened both my personal friendship with Premier Li and the enduring partnership between Malaysia and China, bonds that will continue to benefit our peoples,” he added.
