SINGAPORE

1. MAN ATTACKED PRIEST WITH FOLDING KNIFE DURING COMMUNION; POLICE FOUND 5 WEAPONS IN HIS POSSESION -- THE STRAITS TIMES

The 37-year-old Singaporean Sinhalese man who was arrested for stabbing a priest at a church in Bukit Timah on Nov 9 had done so with a folding knife during communion, said the police in the wee hours of Nov 10.

 

2. ST JOSEPH'S CHURCH STABBING: MAN TO BE CHARGED ON NOV 11; POLICE SAY NO EVIDENCE ATTACK WAS RELIGIOUSLY MOTIVATED -- CNA

A 37-year-old man will be charged in court on Monday (Nov 11) with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon, following the stabbing of a Catholic priest at St Joseph's Church in Upper Bukit Timah on Saturday evening.

1. PRESIDENT PRABOWO DISBANDS JOB CREATION LAW TASK FORCE -- JAKARTA GLOBE

President Prabowo Subianto has officially disbanded the 2020 Job Creation Law Task Force, initially established by former President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, to improve government efficiency. The move, enacted through Presidential Decree No. 32/2024 on Friday, states, "To enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of government affairs, it is necessary to dissolve the Task Force for the Acceleration of Law No 11/2020 on Job Creation."

 

2. MAJOR CHANGES COMING TO BALI’S WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IMPACTING HOTELS AND EATERIES -- THE BALI SUN

The Ministry of Environment for Indonesia has issued new regulations that will prevent landfill sites across Bali from receiving waste that comes from hotels, restaurants, and cafes. The Director of Waste Management for the Ministry of Environment, Norma Tahar, has been in Bali this week, visiting the island’s biggest open landfill sites.

1. CAMBODIANS CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY --  AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

Cambodians celebrated the 71st anniversary of their national independence from France on 9 November at the Independence Monument in the capital. King Norodom Sihamoni ignited the “victory flame” at the monument, which will burn for three days.

 

2. RISING IRRAWADDY DOLPHIN POPULATION -- FRESH NEWS 

Another newborn Irrawaddy dolphin was discovered last Friday in Kratie province, a known habitat for dolphins. This is the ninth baby dolphin born this year and the highest birth rate since 2021 when Cambodia recorded six newborn Irrawaddy dolphins.

 

MYANMAR

1. MYANMAR-THAILAND TO FIGHT CROSS-BORDER CRIMES -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Both neighbours have committed to promoting peace and stability along their border regions by eradicating the movement of narcotics and online gambling. The two governments also agreed to promote border trade and development, investments and the movement of labour to enhance bilateral relations. 

 

2. RISING LIVER TRANSPLANTS IN YANGON HOSPITAL -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

More liver transplants are being carried out at The Yangon Speciality Hospital and doctors performed the 37th surgery last Friday on a 60-year-old woman from Chin State who was suffering from liver disease. The surgery took seven and a half hours.

 

VIETNAM

1. VIETNAM BRACES FOR SEVENTH TYPHOON THIS YEAR -- VIETNAMPLUS

Authorities are on alert as Typhoon Yinxing, the seventh storm to hit Vietnam, is moving slowly towards the country since last Friday. Experts are forecasting strong winds and heavy rainfall, and warning ships are exposed to high risks. 

 

2. GOVT PUSHES HOUSING AGENDA FOR ALL BY 2025 -- VIETNAMPLUS

The government is stepping up housing support under its National Target Programs by eliminating   temporary housing and dilapidated houses by 2025. It aims to promote social security and reduce poverty sustainably, addressing the housing issues faced by approximately 315,000 households nationwide.

Hundreds of tourists braved the early morning chill and flocked to the top of Loei’s Phu Ruea mountain to enjoy the first rays of sunlight on Saturday.
