Lebanon Faces Israeli Aggression Violating International Humanitarian Law

12/11/2024 02:48 PM

RIYADH, Nov 12 (Bernama-SPA) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has emphasised that Lebanon faces an unprecedented crisis threatening its future, suffering from severe Israeli aggression that violates key principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

His remarks came during the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit held Monday in Riyadh.

The Lebanese prime minister reported that the ongoing attacks have resulted in over 3,200 deaths, including more than 775 children and women, and injured over 4,000, including medical personnel.

The escalation has forced many Lebanese to flee, worsening the country's existing challenges.

He urged immediate international support to halt the aggression and promote sustainable stability.

Reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Mikati emphasised the need for reinforced army presence in the south, cooperation with peacekeeping forces, and extended authority over Lebanon’s borders.

He also called for a Gaza ceasefire and a just, lasting peace based on a two-state solution.
