MAGDEBURG (Germany), Dec 22 (Bernama-dpa) -- Several hundred people gathered for a vigil in the German city of Magdeburg on Sunday, following the deadly attack on a Christmas market that killed five and injured 200 people, reported German news agency (dpa).
Families and people of all ages came to the Johanniskirche church, the city's main place of mourning. Many had tears in their eyes and embraced one another. They stood silently, looking at an ever-growing sea of flowers.
A car had sped through the city's Christmas market on Friday evening, leaving a trail of death and chaos. The alleged perpetrator is in custody awaiting trial.
French Europe Minister Benjamin Haddad is expected on Sunday to lay a wreath for the victims of the attack at Magdeburg Cathedral, according to the state chancellery.
Saxony-Anhalt's Justice Minister Franziska Weidinger and city representatives are also expected to attend.
