Seoul Secures Voice Files From Data Recorder Of Crashed Jeju Air Plane, Officials Say

SEOUL, Jan 2 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- Investigators have secured audio files from the retrieved voice recorder of a Jeju Air aircraft involved in this week's deadly crash, government officials said Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry said the investigators have successfully converted data from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of Jeju Air's crashed B737-800 aircraft into audio files.

"The CVR contains up to two hours of recordings, and we have secured the maximum capacity of data," the ministry said.

Authorities will begin analysing the audio files and producing a transcript.

The CVR captures conversations between cockpit crew members, communications with air traffic control, and various warning sounds inside the cockpit. It typically records up to two hours of audio during a flight, continuing until the aircraft's engines are shut down.

The device from Jeju Air's crashed B737-800 aircraft was recovered in relatively intact condition on the day of the tragic accident, Sunday.

The separate flight data recorder, also recovered from the aircraft, will be sent to the headquarters of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board in Washington for analysis, officials said.

The ministry added that it has commenced on-site inspections of air navigation safety facilities nationwide, including localiser equipment, which has been identified as a contributing factor in the Jeju Air accident.
