PARIS, Feb 4 (Bernama-dpa) -- French actress Juliette Binoche will be president of the jury at this year's Cannes Film Festival, reported German Press Agency (dpa), quoting the organisers on Tuesday.
Binoche will be marking 40 years since her first appearance at the renowned French film festival, according to the event's website.
"Juliette Binoche has won over audiences and critics alike, bringing together today’s greatest filmmakers in her world-class filmography," a statement said.
The jury selects the winner of the festival's main prize, the Palme d'Or, which will be awarded this year on May 24.
Binoche, who is best known internationally for her role in "The English Patient," has been president of the European Film Academy since May 2024.
She is one of the few French actresses to have won an Oscar. She has also been named best actress by the three major film festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
"I'm looking forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the Jury and the public," she said in a statement.
The festival opens on May 13.
US director Greta Gerwig was president of the jury last year.
