MOSCOW, Feb 9 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- An earthquake recorded near the Cayman Islands reached a magnitude of 7.6 and a tsunami alert is in place, the US Geological Survey reported, according to Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the service reported that at 23.23 GMT Saturday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 was recorded some 209 kilometres southwest of the capital of the Cayman Islands, George Town. The epicentre was located at a depth of 10 kilometres.
According to the latest data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the tsunami threat still remains.
There are no reports of casualties or damage yet.
