PUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 (Bernama) — The Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Anadolu Ajansı (Anadolu) to strengthen media ties between Malaysia and Türkiye and expand news-sharing opportunities between the two agencies.

BERNAMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, said the MoU underscores both agencies’ commitment to enhancing cooperation in news dissemination and content sharing, in line with the aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Türkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan.

“The renewal of this MoU paves the way for BERNAMA and Anadolu to expand collaboration in media and communications.

“This initiative will further increase content exchange, covering news, photos, and video clips, while broadening the scope of coverage for both organisations,” she said after the MoU document exchange ceremony at the Seri Perdana Complex today. The event was held in conjunction with ErdoÄŸan’s official visit to Malaysia, which began yesterday (Feb 10).

The document was one of 11 MoUs exchanged in the presence of Anwar and ErdoÄŸan.

Nur-ul Afida stated that, at present, BERNAMA shares 150 news articles, 30 photographs, and 30 video clips on various topics with Anadolu each month.

She added that in light of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, BERNAMA has been extensively reporting on the country’s commitment to planning, preparing for, and implementing events related to the Southeast Asian bloc.

As such, she noted that the MoU with Anadolu provides a platform for the distribution and dissemination of ASEAN-related information on an international scale.

“This MoU is also a testament to Anadolu’s confidence in BERNAMA’s capability to deliver its news and content across the ASEAN region, while BERNAMA, in turn, can leverage Anadolu’s network to enhance its global outreach.

“This enables news about Malaysia and ASEAN to reach a wider audience in Türkiye through Anadolu,” she said.

Beyond content exchange, Nur-ul Afida highlighted that the MoU would also facilitate deeper collaboration, including placement programmes for journalists, photographers, and videographers from both agencies to gain exposure and experience.

At the same time, she expressed hope that the MoU would also cover joint publication projects, similar to BERNAMA’s existing collaboration with China Media Group (CMG).

“ I hope to explore more such partnerships with Anadolu and other international news agencies,” she said.

This follows BERNAMA’s efforts to strengthen its International News Service last year by increasing the number of journalists and editors to enhance news production and dissemination.

Nur-ul Afida also viewed the collaboration with Anadolu as a recognition of BERNAMA’s role in the global journalism landscape.

“This reaffirms BERNAMA’s relevance as a trusted news provider,” she said.

The MoU between BERNAMA and Anadolu will be in effect for one year and will be renewed automatically.

The agreement was signed by Nur-ul Afida on behalf of BERNAMA, while Anadolu’s Chief Executive Officer, Serdar Karagoz, signed on behalf of the Turkish news agency.
