OSAKA, March 4 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- The Guinness World Records has officially recognised the Grand Ring, the central architectural feature of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, western Japan, as the world’s largest wooden architectural structure.

Spanning over 61,000 square metres, the massive roof symbolises the six-month-long global event, set to begin on April 13, 2025, Kyodo news agency reported according to the global authority on world records.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Sosuke Fujimoto, the architect behind the structure, expressed his hope that the Expo symbol would convey a message about the importance of fostering unity in an increasingly divided world.

Completed on February 27, the architectural masterpiece embodies the Expo’s philosophy of "Unity in Diversity."

The structure, standing up to 20 metres high with a circumference of approximately 2 kilometres, is constructed from around 27,000 cubic metres of timber, including Japanese cypress and cedar, as well as European red pine, the Expo organisers said.
