WASHINGTON, March 5 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- United States (US) Representative Al Green was escorted out of the Capitol on Tuesday after interrupting President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress.
Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported that Green, a Democrat from Texas, was removed from the chamber following warnings from House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Trump faced boos from some lawmakers while others chanted “U-S-A!”
"Mr. Green, take your seat," Johnson said, before ordering his removal.
"Finding that members continue to engage in wilful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the Chair now directs the sergeant-at-arms to restore order and remove this gentleman from the chamber," he said before Green was removed.
Green said he yelled at Trump, telling the president he had "no mandate" to cut Medicaid.
"His budget calls for deep cuts in Medicaid. He needs to save Medicaid," he told reporters.
"It's worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up to this president's desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security," he said.
He added that he was uncertain whether he would face any formal punishment for his protest in the chamber.
