Malaysian High Commission In Namibia Hosts Iftar

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian High Commission in Namibia hosted an iftar for more than 40 invited guests to foster unity and solidarity to mark the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the iftar gathering on Friday, Charge d Affaires of Malaysia to Namibia Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya said the event was also part of efforts to support the less fortunate during the holy month of Ramadhan while strengthening bilateral ties between Malaysia and Namibia.

He noted that while Muslims make up only one to two per cent of the country’s 3.1 million population, the spirit of unity among Namibians remains strong.

“This gathering not only fosters relationships between our two nations but also allows Namibians to experience Malaysia’s culture of generosity and unity,” he said in a statement.

The iftar was held at the official residence of Mohamad Rameez and his wife, Datin Noorzulaikha, at the Eucalyptus Complex in Windhoek.

Among the prominent guests were the President of the Islamic Council of Namibia, Dr Samaan D. Jacobs, who also serves as Chairperson of the Namibian Public Service Commission, and Ghana's High Commissioner to Namibia, Yakubu Alhassan, as well as diplomats from Algeria, Indonesia, Ghana and Nigeria.

Guests were treated to a lavish spread of traditional Malaysian fares such as Nasi Minyak, Kurma Ayam, Daging Masak Hitam, Dhall Ubi, Kaki Kambing Panggang, Salad Thairu, Air Sirap Bandung, and Teh Tarik Halia.

They later performed the Isya and Tarawih prayers before concluding the night with ‘Moreh’, a post-prayer meal featuring Bubur Lambuk, coffee, and Malaysian-style Teh Tarik.
