Another 2,000 US National Guard Troops to be Deployed to Los Angeles: California Governor

WASHINGTON, June 10 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday said that United States (US) President Donald Trump will deploy an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to ongoing immigration protests.

“I was just informed Trump is deploying another 2,000 Guard troops to L.A.,” Newsom said on social media platform X, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

Trump had earlier signed a memorandum on Saturday, invoking his authority to send at least 2,000 National Guard personnel to the city following confrontations between immigration officers and demonstrators.

Newsom criticised the move, claiming that many of the troops were left idle.

Meanwhile, the US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) announced the deployment of 700 active-duty Marines from Camp Pendleton to Los Angeles to support National Guard operations.

“Due to increased threats to federal law enforcement officers and federal buildings, approximately 700 active-duty US Marines from Camp Pendleton are being deployed to Los Angeles to restore order,” said US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Newsom also said his administration would file a lawsuit against Trump, calling the National Guard deployment “illegal” and a violation of state sovereignty.

The protests erupted last Friday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents raided several local businesses and detained hundreds of individuals suspected of residing in the country without documentation.

The Trump administration has said the ICE operations will continue as part of its broader crackdown on illegal immigration.
