KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) – Malaysia has been elected as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for the 2025–2028 term.
In a statement today, Wisma Putra announced that Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, led Malaysia’s lobbying efforts during the election session held on the sidelines of the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Meeting in Istanbul Saturday.
“Malaysia’s candidate, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Aishah Bidin, will serve on the commission for the said term beginning this August,” the statement said.
Aishah has extensive experience and exposure in the field of human rights and humanitarian issues, especially during her tenure as a commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM).
She has also served as Malaysia’s representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and is frequently invited as a resource expert at forums organised by the United Nations and other international organisations.
According to the statement, Malaysia’s membership in the IPHRC will contribute to the socioeconomic development of member states for the well-being of the ummah (Muslims).
Established on June 30, 2011, the IPHRC consists of 18 Commission Members and functions as an independent expert body that provides advisory services to the OIC in the field of human rights.
