MOSCOW, Aug 17 (Bernama-TASS) – The summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska was “very productive,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in remarks to VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin on Telegram.
Rubio described the encounter as “very good and very productive” when asked about the talks, TASS news agency reported.
The meeting took place on Aug 15 at a military base in Alaska and lasted more than three hours.
The two leaders first held a one-on-one discussion in a car before continuing closed-door talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov, Secretary of State Rubio and Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Putin said afterwards that discussions focused on resolving the Ukraine conflict. He called for “turning the page” in bilateral ties and invited Trump to visit Moscow.
Trump noted progress but said not all issues had been resolved.
After returning to Washington, Trump spoke by phone with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, followed by the leaders of Britain, Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland and France, the NATO Secretary-General and the European Commission President.
Zelensky later said he would meet Trump in Washington on Aug 18 to discuss “details of ending the conflict.”
The New York Times reported that Trump also invited European leaders to join that meeting.
