1.INDONESIAN POLICE OFFICER FIRED OVER DEATH OF MOTORCYCLE TAXI DRIVER THAT SPARKED NATIONWIDE PROTESTS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

A mid-ranking Indonesian police officer has been dismissed after an internal ethics tribunal found him guilty in connection with the death of a motorcycle taxi driver who was fatally run over by a police armored vehicle, an incident that triggered mass protests across the country.

 

2.ACTIVIST ACCUSED OF URGING MOB TO TORCH POLICE HQ AMONG SEVEN CHARGED -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesian police have charged seven social media activists with inciting violence during nationwide protests that have left at least 10 people dead and triggered widespread unrest.

1.MODERN HOSPITAL TO PROVIDE QUALITY HEALTHCARE -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The construction of a 300-bed public hospital costing RM275 million (US$65 million) started in Vientiane on Tuesday. The six-storey hospital, funded through a loan from Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund, will be completed in 30 months. 

 

2.LAO WORKERS’ REMITTANCE FUELLING ECONOMY -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Lao nationals working overseas repatriated over RM123 million (US$29 million) in the first half of this year, helping to boost the local economy. About 350,000 Laotians are working abroad, mainly in Thailand, South Korea and Japan.

1.HEALTHCARE AWARENESS FOR RURAL STUDENTS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Health Ministry’s immunisation programme reached over 12,000 students in 76 schools in Nawnghkio Township in Shan State. Health education, disease prevention, school health services and vaccinations for children under five years of age were carried out.

 

2.ASEAN EFFORT TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar participated online at the 18th ASEAN Environment Ministers and the 20th ASEAN Transboundary Haze Pollution Control Ministers’ meetings held in Malaysia. It was highlighted that fire hotspots and transboundary haze pollution in the Mekong region have decreased.
