KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- A vibrant cultural showcase featuring traditional and multicultural performances highlighted Malaysia’s rich heritage and diversity in celebration of the country’s 68th National Day and Malaysia Day at the Malaysian Embassy in Astana on Thursday.

A special troupe, the Mamlakat Dancers, captivated the audience with a series of Malaysian traditional and multicultural performances, including Joget Bunga Hutan, Joget Malaysia, and Tarian Jambatan Tamparuli, as well as Chinese and Indian dances, symbolising the nation’s unity in diversity.

Guests were also treated to authentic Malaysian culinary delights and introduced to the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VMY2026) campaign, which promotes the country as a preferred destination for Kazakh travellers.

In a statement, the embassy said the reception served to foster closer people-to-people ties and reaffirm the warm friendship and partnership between Malaysia and Kazakhstan.

The event, attended by more than 200 guests, was graced by Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastayev, as Guest of Honour, alongside members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, business leaders, academia, media representatives, the Malaysian diaspora and friends of Malaysia.

In his address, Malaysian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mohd Adli Abdullah reflected on Malaysia’s journey since independence, underscoring the country’s unity in diversity, economic progress and resilience.

He also highlighted the strengthening partnership with Kazakhstan in trade, investment, education, tourism and the halal industry, noting the rise in bilateral trade and people-to-people exchanges following the launch of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Almaty.

“Malaysia is committed to strengthening bilateral ties and we warmly invite our Kazakh friends to discover Malaysia through the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign,” he said.

Malaysia and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations in 1992, following Kazakhstan's declaration of independence in December 1991.
