KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Three recent events in London, namely Malaysia Carnival, Malaysia Reception and CelebrASIA, have collectively showcased Malaysia’s ability to connect communities through its cultural richness, attracting not only Malaysians abroad but also thousands of Britons and international visitors.
Hosted by the High Commission of Malaysia in the United Kingdom (UK), food, music, crafts, dance, and literature came together to remind the world that Malaysia is more than a nation – it is a cultural experience.
In a statement issued from London, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the UK, Datuk Zakri Jaafar, paid tribute to the enduring Malaysia-UK partnership, recalling the deep historical ties and highlighting robust cooperation across defence, trade, education, science and technology, and cultural exchange.
He also highlighted Malaysia’s current chairmanship of ASEAN, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
He expressed confidence that the bonds between ASEAN and the UK will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead, building on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values.
The annual Malaysia Carnival, held on Aug 30 at Brickendonbury, Hertford, in conjunction with Malaysia’s National Day and themed batik, featured exhibitions, product showcases, and workshops. Nearly 3,000 Malaysians and local visitors flocked to the carnival, which also offered silat demonstrations, vibrant stage performances, and traditional games.
On Sept 4, Malaysia celebrated another milestone with a special reception at the National Army Museum in London, commemorating Malaysia’s 68th National Day, 62nd Malaysia Day, and 92nd Armed Forces Day, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from various UK government agencies, the armed forces, the business community, and friends of Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the week culminated with London’s largest Southeast Asian festival, CelebrASIA, now in its second edition, held from Sept 5-7, at Battersea Power Station.
Zakri said CelebrASIA is a living testament to the unity and resilience of Southeast Asians in the UK, highlighting shared values of friendship, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
The event took place across various halls and parks around Battersea Power Station, an iconic London landmark revitalised through Malaysian investment by SP Setia, Sime Darby, and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) consortium.
“Let it be a beacon of what we can achieve together. When nations unite, when communities collaborate, and when friendship flourishes,” Zakri said.
