KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Malaysia in Doha has informed that the security situation in Qatar and the Gulf region is still not yet fully stable following recent developments in the region.
In a notice issued to Malaysians in the country on Monday, the embassy stated that the latest incidents were reported in the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed industrial areas, but involved only minor damage.
“Therefore, all Malaysians in Qatar are advised to remain vigilant and NOT LEAVE their residences, except for essential matters only,” according to the notice, which was uploaded on the embassy’s Facebook page.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, the embassy said a data collection exercise is currently being carried out to update records of Malaysians residing in or stranded in Qatar to ensure that the latest and complete information can be obtained.
“The measure is aimed at enabling important information to be channelled more quickly and accurately should the need arise,” it said.
The link can be accessed via the embassy’s official Facebook page.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated on Saturday when the United States (US) and Israel launched violent attacks on Iran, reportedly killing several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and US assets in Gulf countries.
