Iran Vows Wider Attacks As Leadership Trio Seeks Khamenei Successor

TEHRAN, March 6 (Bernama-dpa) -- The Iranian military has announced an expansion of its retaliatory attacks nearly a week after the start of the Israel and United States (US) strikes, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

In the coming days, the enemy will face more intensive and wide-ranging strikes, state television reported on Friday, citing the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which assumes operational command of Iran's armed forces during military conflicts.

Iran's military leadership also reported attacks with kamikaze drones on the Ramat David air base and a radar station in Israel, as well as on a US base in Kuwait and in Erbil in Iraq.

Meanwhile, Iran's temporary leadership council continues to address the question of who will succeed supreme leader ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during Israeli-US attacks last Saturday.

At its fourth meeting, President Masoud Pezeshkian, judiciary chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei and cleric Alireza Arafi discussed convening an assembly to determine a new supreme leader, according to a government statement issued on Friday.

The trio has been running state affairs since Khamenei's death.

The council was granted expanded powers on Thursday, including authority to decide on matters of war and peace and to appoint or dismiss military and police officials.

Under Iran's constitution, the Assembly of Experts – a body of 88 clerics – is responsible for selecting the next supreme leader. It remains unclear when the body will convene.

Israel's defence minister warned on Wednesday that Israel would also target Khamenei's successor.

One potential candidate is his second-oldest son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
