No Exchanges of Messages Between Tehran, Washington - Iran Deputy FM

06/03/2026 06:39 PM

TEHRAN, March 6 (Bernama-MNA) -- Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi has said that Iran is focusing on defence, adding that Tehran has not sent or received any messages from Washington, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

Speaking to a TV programme on Thursday, Takht-e Ravanchi, who was a member of the negotiating team prior to the war with Washington and the Zionist regime, said that the war was imposed on Iran and Tehran was only concentrating on its defence.

He said Iran has prioritised defending itself against the aggression, adding that no messages have been exchanged with the aggressor United States (US) regime.

He further called into question the accuracy of the US negotiator Steve Witkoff's remarks about the 400 kilogram (kg) stockpile of highly enriched uranium as false, saying that the Iranian team had not made such comments in the talks.

He added that it was not Iran that did not fulfil its promises in the negotiations; rather, it was the US side.

Meanwhile, Iran's Armed Forces General Staff has rejected reports that Iranian forces launched drones towards Azerbaijan.

In a statement, the General Staff said that Iran respects the sovereignty of all countries, particularly Muslim and neighbouring nations, and categorically rejects any drone launch by Iranian armed forces towards Azerbaijan.

The statement added that such actions have precedent as part of efforts by the fake Israeli regime to disrupt relations between Muslim countries through various means.

In a separate development, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated on Thursday that his country is not involved in the aggressive actions of the US and the Israeli regime against Iran.

"We have no interest in any operations against neighbouring countries, and our policy does not permit such actions," Aliyev said.

His remarks come amid a psychological operation, with claims circulating on Thursday that two drones had struck the Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan.
